This is Drake’s new move: drop a record with one chill-as-hell banger and 19 other songs you could care less about. Think about it. Last year’s Views had the “Hotline Bling” reprise “One Dance” featured among a handful of songs that were mostly forgettable.
“Hold On, We’re Going Home” was the banger on Nothing Was the Same (don’t @ me about “Started From the Bottom”). “Marvins Room” is every grown-up’s favorite song on Take Care.
And on More Life, his new album playlist that dropped over the weekend, the winner is the downtempo dancehall jam “Passionfruit.”
Twitter went nuts over it, and it’s easy to see why. It’s “One Dance” redux, but somehow both more playful summertime vibes (the brief Moodymann interlude!) and a way moodier, exquisitely vulnerable Drake flexing his R&B chops.
